Oklahoma Business Woman Returns from Saudi Arabia
Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) June 25, 2007 -- Debra Murray, president and managing member of Blue Spring International , recently returned from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia after teaching in the Women's Entrepreneurship Training Workshop sponsored by Dar Al-Hekma College, The State Department, and Women President' Organization (WPO). Murray attended as a member of WPO along with members Erica Whitlinger, co-founder of The ReFirement Group, Sherri Orlowitz, founder of Shan Industries, and Carrine Reilly, partner at Henry, Held and Reilly and LLP. These WPO members were presented with this proposition as a one-of-a-kind teaching experience to help empower 40 Saudi women by sharing their experiences and strategies as successful American businesswomen.
This was the first such workshop for Dal Al-Hekma and it was very successful. Debra Murray shares her response. "The workshop at Dar Al-Hekma College was a rare opportunity for us to meet and interact with a group of Saudi women in their own country. Forty Saudi women attended the workshop and gave us excellent feedback because they knew the right questions to ask. They had the academic tools and degrees but what they wanted were the next steps to start their own business or grow their current business. They speak from the heart and were warm and loving women with much the same concerns and challenges we face. Though they have some strict immediate challenges in front of them, we are not worlds apart on everything as we had thought might be the case."
"The glue that held our time together was Dar Al-Hekma College, led by the dean, Dr. Suhair Al Qurashi, and Dr. Saleha Abedin, the vice dean who coordinated our program. Dar Al-Hekma is a unique women's college that offers young women in the Gulf region an opportunity to gain a higher education in an English and Arabic setting. The College fosters creativity and emphasizes the important role in society of women as the first builders of the family and the first educators of the nation. It did not take more than a few moments with these women for us to catch the spirit and the vision of Dar Al-Hekma."
"Each evening we were welcomed into their personal homes to meet their friends and female family members. Their hospitality, grace and thoughtfulness went beyond any of our expectations. I am grateful to WPO, Marsha Firestone, The State Department and Dar Al-Hekma for providing me with this rare lifetime experience."
The WPO is a consortium of about 4,000 women-owned or women-led companies that gross over one million U.S. dollars per year. Members of the WPO are successful U.S. businesswomen with extensive experience as trainers in seminars and workshops. The WPO is headed by Ms. Marsha Firestone who was introduced to DAR by Ms. Sasha Mehra at the office of Ambassador Shirin Tahir-Tkeli at the W.S. State Department, with the specific proposal to organize a workshop on business entrepreneurship for women in the Kingdom.
